The hospital has a state of the art orthopaedic trauma unit catering to a huge population of the western zone of Tamilnadu, adjoining states and also complex trauma are referred from remote frontiers of India and other neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives etc. The trauma team is headed by Dr. J. Dheenadhayalan, Consultants: Dr. N Rajkumar, Dr. Ramesh Perumal, Dr. Devendra Agraharam and Dr. Arunkamal and two Associate trauma consultants : Dr Mohammed Zackariya, Dr. Velmurugesan P, 11 registrars, 6 fellows and 10 post graduate students, who provide round-the-clock trauma and emergency cover.


The unit has 10 dedicated operation theatres for trauma surgeries. Additionally 3 opertation theaters are available for emergency surgeries and open injury management. The 24 x 7 availability of trauma anaesthetist, plastic surgery consultant and orthopaedic consultant enables the unit to provide recussitation and appropriate management for all major injuries at any time of the day. The consultant level input right at the arrival of the patient makes a huge difference in decision making and ensures the right management fot these complex injuries. Many lives are saved during the “golden hour” after the accident by expert resuscitation and early damage control surgical care.


Academic trauma meetings are conducted three times a week and all trauma cases operated are discussed in an open forum to provide the best possible care for patients. For complex fractures, pre-operative treatment plan is formulated during trauma meetings.

    SERVICES OFFERED

    24X7 Trauma Service

    The availability of 11 Operation Theatres (OTs) dedicated to Trauma and Emergency Surgery and an in-house Trauma Anaesthesia team makes it possible to do all life and limb saving surgeries with minimal delay. The unit also enjoys seamless clinical support from Spine Surgeons, Neurosurgeons, General Surgeons, and Urologists. The Trauma work load is managed around the clock by 4 Trauma Associate Consultants, 12 Registrars and 2 Trauma Fellows.

    Open Injuries and Polytrauma

    The most critical patients reach the Hospital with Open Injuries and Polytrauma often requiring an interdepartmental approach to cases. Ganga Hospital is a Trauma Centre of Excellence - Trauma along with Plastic Surgery and Anaesthesiology units have made the difference in management of Open Injuries, saving lives and limbs. A dedicated Intensivist, cares for Polytrauma patients throughout their stay in the Trauma intensive care unit (ICU) and wards.

    Emergency Fixation and Flaps

    Ganga Hospital's Trauma surgeons have gone through the AO philosophy of education and regularly participate in AO faculty meetings. This has inculcated uniformity in standard of Fixations in all the surgeons.

    Complex Reconstructions

    Ganga Hospital is fluent in Complex Reconstructions in both acquired or congenital problems, with support of its Blood and Bone Banks, state of the art equipment, and usage of advanced implants.

    Minimal Access Trauma Surgery

    Minimal Access Trauma can enable lower length of hospital stay, allowing patients to move into rehabilitation faster. These are predominantly done in the multi-fragmented region with either nailing or plating osteosynthesis., most commonly on the proximal humerus, shaft humerus, shaft humerus, distal humerus, proximal tibia, and distal tibia regions.
