Symbrachydactyly involves short fingers, webbing of fingers and underdevelopment of the hand or whole limb.

Constriction ring syndrome is one of the common anomalies encountered in Asian population.

EXTRA THUMB

Double thumbs can range from varying degrees of longitudinal splitting to triphalangeal thumbs.

SMALL OR ABSENT THUMB

Hypoplasia of thumb can range from a slightly smaller thumb to absence of thumb.

EXTRA FINGERS

The extra fingers can be in the centre or on the side of the little finger. The finger can be fully formed or lying hanging loosely.

RADIAL DEFICIENCY

Radial longitudinal deficiency involves underdevelopment of the radius, one of the forearm bones and the structures along its axis including the thumb.

LARGE FINGERS

Macrodactyly is an overgrowth anomaly that can affect the fingers or toes. It can affect single or multiple digits or the whole limb (hemihypertrophy). Treatment options include amputation and staged reconstruction.

TRIGGER THUMB

Pediatric trigger thumb is a relatively common condition. The main decision to be made is whether to operate or not.

CLEFT HAND

Cleft hand is a congenital anomaly where the central digits are absent by birth with a cleft in the middle. It can affect one or both hands or the feet. Surgery may or may not be needed.

The 11th Annual Dr Rex & Lillian Diveley Paediatric Orthopaedic Visiting Lectureship

Dr S Raja Sabapathy was recently awarded the 2022 Pediatric Visiting Professorship at the Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, USA. He delivered the Diveley Paediatric Orthopaedic Visiting Lecture on 26.09.2022.
