Introduction

Avascular Necrosis of the Lunate

Can occur following an injury or even without an injury (Kienbock’s Disease)
It results in a painful wrist. There will be restriction of the range of motion at the wrist joint and significant reduction in the grip strength.

Proximal Row Carpectomy in these cases can provide a mobile, pain free and stable wrist. Patients are able to do their regular activities at two months and have a good grip and hand function.

Post operative x-ray after proximal row Carpectomy.

Full supination and pronation and good range of wrist movement three month post operation.
