Department of Spine Surgery - Pain Management

Back and neck pain, especially if long standing, can be very debilitating for the patient. Unfortunately sometimes it is impossible to pinpoint the exact source of pain. The pain may arise from the disc, intervertebral facet joints or due to compression of the nerves. In these patients injections into the spine may help to diagnose the source of pain If an injection provides pain relief in the area that is injected, it is likely that this particular area is the source of the problem. This is known as a diagnostic injection. Once the source of pain is identified your doctor can then focus on specific treatment mortality

Also certain patients are not ideal candidates for surgery or do not require surgery for their back / neck disorder, but the injections may be use to provide temporary pain relief. This is known as a theraputic injection.

Different types of diagnostic and theraputic injections are performed by doctors at our centre
